Three more 1-1 swim sessions at the pool this morning. Some great progress from the swimmers too.
It was my fourth session with the first swimmer. Pretty much a non-swimmer when we first met, he’s making giant strides. Body position is now much higher in the water and legs are now working for the athlete rather than creating drag and fatigue. As well as body position, we looked at breathing, hand entry (reducing crossover) and lengthening the stroke. We’re now progressing from building the foundations of swim technique to considering the type of training to do to boost swim fitness and endurance. Great progress!
The second session this morning was my first session with a swimmer who is new to swimming (8 weeks in). During the hour we worked on body position, hand entry, the catch and rhythm & timing. He went from 22 strokes per length, 30 seconds per 25m, to 17 strokes per length in 24 seconds. A different swimmer after that hour.
The third session was with an experienced swimmer who wanted to boost speed and power in his stroke. We did lots of power efforts and high speed swimming – as well as adjust a few aspects of technique (head position, lifting legs in the water, improved streamlining).
Next 1-1 sessions are next week. Looking forward to them already!
If you’d like to improve your swim, a 1-1 session might be a good place to start.
