A Multiple ‘A Race’ Season: Matt’s Year To Remember!

At the beginning of the season, I wrote an article about season planning, and how to prepare for a ‘Multiple A Race Season’. In this article, I used some of our athletes and their goals for the season to give examples.

In this article, we first met ‘Athlete Number 4‘ and his big goals for the season. To perform well in two Ironmans (Austria & Wales) and to qualify for the GB sprint triathlon / aquathon team.

In the Squad, we often joke about ‘Athlete Number 4’ and his love of racing, but let’s take a moment to look at the races, the achievements along the way and give some recognition for Matt.

Great Race Performances!

I make that 18 races in 9 months.

In this time, Matt has achieved some brilliant results.

  • Qualified for GB Aquathon Team
  • Qualified for GB Middle Distance Team (one week after Tour of Merseyside!)
  • 12th overall at the Tour of Merseyside (one week after Ironman Austria!)

Training Consistency

In amongst the racing, Matt has also been incredibly consistent with his training. From the 1st January to 15th September, Matt has averaged 10 hours and 20 minutes of training per week.

  • Swim – 1.39
  • Bike – 5.56
  • Run – 2.13
  • Strength – 0.32

The lowest weekly average was 9.20 (February) and the highest was 11.58 (April).

Great consistency.

Well Done, Matt!

Overall, I would say that 2024 has been an incredible season for an incredible athlete.

Well done Matt!
