I realise you now have a lot of choice for coached open water swim sessions in the region – which is fantastic as I love a good coached swim session! Given the choices available to you, I really appreciate your support for my sessions.
We begin our summer season next week. The water is heating up nicely – 10.2 degrees already! I wonder what next week might look like?
I wanted to give you an overview of what our swim sessions might look like over the next few months.
April
In April we make our return to the water, the first sessions in three or four months for many swimmers. We’re going to spend some time finding our feel for the water, being relaxed and comfortable swimming in our wetsuits in the water. We’ll spend some time finding our intensity zones again, starting to change gears and speed and developing some good swim fitness.
May
In May, the sessions are a bit longer as the water warms up. We’re building on our April swim base, doing some more work at different intensities. This month will see us begin developing our swim pacing, being comfortable swimming quick and then settling into a more sustainable pace. We’ll be using the group environment to work on our open water skills, including drafting, swimming with others, sighting and turn buoys. On top of all of this, we’ll be fine-tuning our swim technique.
June – September
With a good swim fitness foundation, we’re now looking at working more at race pace – understanding what it feels like and executing it over distance. Whilst thinking about race execution, we’re going to really test our open water skills, executing them at pace. During these months we’ll be developing some strong swim endurance and we’ll be feeling strong and fast in the water – ready to race!
How does that sound? Want to join us for our swim sessions? You’ll be in great company.
Our April sessions are almost full now. I’ll be opening up bookings for our May sessions shortly.
