October is a few days away!
This means different things to different people. For some, it’s racing. For others, it’s rest. Others, a fresh start. Doing things differently for some athletes. For many, the start of an exciting new journey. Technique work for some, whilst building strength for others. Racing, Training, Technique & Strength!
Here is a flavour of what October means to us and our athletes.
Racing
Firstly, we have athletes about to start their tapers for their key events of the year. They’ve waited patiently, watching others cross the finish line and collect their medals. This month, it’s their turn.
- Ironman Cascais
- Ironman Cascais 70.3
- Ibiza Middle Distance
- Chester Marathon
- Chicago Marathon
- Dublin Marathon

Starting the Coaching Journey
Next, we have some athletes who are starting their coaching journey with us. The start of a great adventure. What do these athletes look like?
- Targeting his second Ironman and starting the journey to Ironman France.
- First coaching experience, targeting their first middle distance triathlon plus an early season ultramarathon.
- Experienced athlete who wants to switch focus, and target Ironman 70.3 this year.
- New triathlete in 2023, wants to go longer and take on Ironman 70.3 later in the year.
- Two athletes (friends) who want to take on their first middle distance triathlon in May, and then progress to a full Ironman in October.
Off Season Programme
Third, we have athletes who have finished their 2023 season, had a little downtime / unstructured work / easy training, and are now beginning their ‘off season programme’.
With many of these athletes, we are focusing on strength development, including some gym work, and reducing the longer sessions they became used to in Spring and Summer this year. A lower volume overall, but with a specific focus.
Swim Technique Focus
Fourthly, our Monday and Wednesday Swim Squads will be beginning a more technical phase.
A greater emphasis on improving technique, increasing efficiency in the water, with a slightly lower load during the sessions. Don’t worry though, we will still include some good intensity and hard work during our sessions!
Sunday Swim Squads
And finally, we have our Sunday Swim Squads starting on the 1st October and running through to Christmas. Two hour sessions. Fifty metre pool. Some familiar faces and some new (to me) athletes. A great mix!

It’s a great time of year.
It’s not too late to join us. If you are interested in improving your swim technique, like the idea of a focused ‘off season’, want to explore coaching options for 2024 races, then please get in touch!
