Swim Session: Christmas-Themed Main Set

Swim Session: Christmas-Themed Main Set

If you’re looking for a meaty ‘Christmas-themed’ set, then read on!

Before we go on, this set worked for me because it ticked a lot of what I look for in a main set.

✅ Numbers and sequence
✅ Holding pace and getting faster towards the end
✅ It had a theme
✅ The set had a rhythm – smooth into strong
✅ Challenging
✅ It was a really chunky main set (3,900m)

The Set

The set was based on the Twelve Days of Christmas, descending from 12 down to 1.

It was 12 lengths (300m) smooth, followed by 12 x 25m strong effort.

Then 11 lengths (275m) smooth, followed by 11 x 25m strong effort.

And so on.

All the way down to 1.

Pacing

As the distance of the smooth efforts reduce, the pace increases. All the while, you’re holding a consistently strong pace on the 25s.

I thought my arms were going to fall off towards the end! 😀

If you’re looking for something different, to cover a good distance, with some changing pace work, then this set might be for you!
