Swim Session: Die Hard 25s
A few years ago, I was wracking my brains trying to think of a Christmas themed swim session that would fit into our off-season training block.
You may have seen this already, but if you haven’t you’re going to love this …
Mixing the 12 Days of Christmas, the number 25 to signify the 25th December and a great Christmas film, what do you get …
Any guesses?
Come on?
Wait for it.
How about …
(Die) Hard 25’s!

The Session
Using the 12 Days of Christmas as an excuse to increase the number of fast 25’s from 1-12, die-ing hard in the process. We also include 12 x 100m as recovery in there for good measure.
From the beginning, we’re going straight into the main set.
- 100m easy
- 1 x 25m hard
- 100m easy
- 2x25m hard
- 100m easy
- 3x25m hard
- 100m easy
- 4x25m hard
- 100m easy
- 5x25m hard
- 100m easy
- 6x25m hard
- 100m easy
- 7x25m hard
- 100m easy
- 8x25m hard
- 100m easy
- 9x25m hard
- 100m easy
- 10×25 hard
- 100m easy
- 11×25 hard
- 100m easy
- 12x25m hard
We’re keeping the rest tight so we can fit it in! If time is against us, we may drop the 100m easy to 50m easy instead.
We have done this set where we start at 12 x 25m and work our way down to 1 x 25m (which is mentally a bit easier!).
The session is 3150 metres + cool down (2550m if we do easy 50s instead of 100s).
What do you think? A festive favourite?
