Swim Squad Awards – The Last Few

Here are a few more ‘Awards’ for our Swim Squad.

The ‘Missing You’ Award

This one goes to one of our original 2019 Swim Squad line-up and, despite living on the Wirral and travelling miles for each session, one of the most regular swimmers at our Squads. That was until Jane left the UK earlier this year, to begin a new life in New Zealand.

“I’m really missing Swim Squad. It’s not the same swimming on your own. Sometimes, I’m the only person in the pool.”

We’re missing you too, Jane!

The ‘Most Swim Squad Swim Caps Around The World’ Award

This time last year, we started posting ‘Swim Squad Swim caps Around The World’ posts on social media. Swimmers would take pictures of themselves and their swim caps in places they have visited. I received so many pictures in so many marvellous locations!

Some swimmers are more prolific than others when it comes to sending these pictures. Our top 3, in no particular order, are …

Jan – top of mountains, in the snow, at another outdoor swim spot …

Chris – every single holiday, I can picture a reluctant Mike taking *another* photo of the swim cap! “Try a different angle, Mike” is what I hear.

Trish – making us all jealous with many pictures of her swim cap in another beautiful outdoor 50m pool in sunny Australia.

Keep them coming!

The ‘Most New Introductions’ Award

This one recognises those individuals who encourage others to get in touch and give our Swim Squad sessions a try. There are lots of swimmers who spread the word of our swim sessions, but three swimmers in particular stand out.

Graham

“I’ve been given your name by Graham. He reckons you’re the man to help me with my swim.” is an opening to many an unsolicited Instagram message I’ve received. I think we have Mel, Shane, Danny, Daniel R, maybe Daniel C too, in our Squads as a direct result of Graham’s passion for Swim Squad! Probably a few more too.

Thanks Graham!

Elliot

“Good afternoon Bryan, I have one of our managers interested in the Monday night swim session …” or “Elliot has given me your name …” are two phrases I’ve read a lot too. it almost seems like the Monday evening technique session is full of Elliot’s friends and colleagues!

Thanks Elliot – spreading the love for swimming, I like it!

Sammie

Another swimmer who has introduced us to other swimmers – and is very good at sharing the love for Swim Squad on social media – is Sammie. Despite travelling in from Chester for every session, Sammie has been a regular at our Swim Squads and our open water swim groups for many years. As a result of Sammie’s encouragement, we’ve had a few swimmers join us for our 50m pool sessions (Ellie & Therese), our open water sessions (Neil, Dave, Ellie & Therese) and we have another swimmer on the Swim Squad waiting list.

Great work, Sammie!

The ‘Best Comeback’ Award

This one goes to an athlete who has had double knee surgery in 2023 and is now back training, preparing himself for Ironman France 2024.

Ian, take a bow!

The ‘Don’t Know How Good They Are’ Award

This could go to so many of our swimmers, as humility runs through the Squad. However, three swimmers spring to mind when I’m thinking of this.

Lisa C, Peter & Nadine.

All three swimmers are strong, strong swimmers. I’m not sure they believe that though.

I recognise it, and many of your Squad-mates do too.

That’s All, Folks!

And this post brings the end of our Swim Squad Awards for this year. Loads and loads of swimmers were included in the (numerous) posts – which goes to show what a great bunch you all are!

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading, reflecting and celebrating the efforts of our athletes this year.

I can’t wait to see what we write about you all next year!
