Here is what our swimmers had to say. Here are some of the messages from athletes.
These are the swimmers that people look at and think “Wow!”
Jo
“Jo Farrell is my inspiration. She is just a fabulous swimmer who glides through the water but is so humble and encouraging to everyone. She is an all-round fabulous athlete and just a lovely person.”
“I want to be Jo Farrell when I grow up!”
Jan
“For pure commitment and an inspirational love for swimming and commitment to swim training which is so infectious, I’d nominate Jan Rigby.”
“She is utterly inspirational and her love and commitment to swimming and to all those around her is second to none. Her energy is so infectious, and I think everyone who encounters her absorbs her energy. It is her constant presence that is part of the appeal. Just knowing she will be there with a smile and a hug and so many words of encouragement. It is also her drive and competitive but friendly spirit, she takes no messing, no hanging about , let’s go go go which suits us all. She is the marvellous matriarch of the group – and instrumental in linking lots of us. Love her to bits.”
“I nominate Jan for being a huge positive personality in the Swim Squad”.
“Inspired with her love and passion. Her positive vibes, willingness to help, advise and share any helpful hints and tips makes her my inspirational swimmer. Plus not forgetting her bizarre ability to swim in a cossie when the rest of us are neoprened to the hilt!”
“For being ever present source of advice and motivation.”

Ian
“The solid steady smiley rock that is my mate Dunny. He is the leader of the fast lane and even his furious splash that he makes could not put us off him. He is full of fun, banter and as a long standing personal friend, without doubt he has been a massive help to me. I have to mention what a bloody amazing swimmer he is too – he flies up and down Huyton making it look easy!! It feels really special to be training with a buddy who I swam with back in the day when we were say 12 – 15 and now both heading to 50!”
“My lane buddy since the start of my Swim Squad journey. The powerhouse, top counter and time-keeper, the glue, the leader (and the one who keeps us all on task when we get distracted!)”
Kathryn
“Most inspirational has to be Kathryn – who has repeatedly been kicked, but keeps coming back strong and smiling.”
“An absolute force! Even after a few setbacks this year she’s always back at Squad, smiling and giving it all she’s got. A truly inspirational woman!”
Sallie
“My hero and idol! We all want to be more like Sallie don’t we? A truly amazing woman, athlete, swimmer, training partner and race buddy! So much fun and good energy, always!”

Sammie
“The queen of triathlon and racing. Race day tactics, bike tekkers tips and tricks aplenty!”
Sara
“She can do pretty much anything can’t she?! Always getting stuck in, doing the tough and gritty races – she’s a pretty epic athlete!”

Dani
“I can’t forget Dani! She’s pretty much superhuman isn’t she?!”
“During a swim watching her performance and technique is both inspiring and to a novice eye looks technically excellent. Her humble attitude / discipline / commitment and friendly persona makes me her swim magnet.”

Elliot
“Elliot’s story is inspiring”
“Watching him transform into a swimmer and triathlete has been the best!”
“Not a dry eye in the Squad – all around inspiration.”
Peter
“Someone who inspires me in the Squad is Peter. He’s just so consistent and someone I definitely aspire to be like.”

Sue
“Sue rarely misses a session, quietly gets on with her training and is a ‘face’ of Swim Squad. She won’t mind me saying she isn’t the fastest but without doubt she would be high on the list for displaying solid consistency with her attendance and participation.”

Chris
“The abacus, the jelly babies and perfect pacing.”
Helen
“I think Helen’s effort to do Ironman UK totally blew me away. Watching Helen inspired me to do one in the future. She was ‘The Man In The Arena’.“

Jon
“Shortest warm-ups, most improved, always funny, and the back kick that got us all in stitches.”
The Squad
The Squad – as a whole – received a few mentions, so I thought I’d post one of the messages I received.
“I’ve been reflecting on this years Swim Squad Awards – I’m really hesitant in choosing individuals – as throughout the year I’ve been really inspired & motivated by everyone who turns up Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sundays for our pool & open water sessions.
There has been so much friendliness, encouragement, interest in each other & an overall inspiration that flows through the veins of the squad. The whole swim squad community is worthy of praise & recognition.”
I count fourteen different swimmers in that list.
Isn’t that just nice?
