Swim Squad Awards: The “Always Look On The Bright Side” Award

This one is the “Always Look On The Bright Side” Award. The award that looks at positivity and motivation.

What I love about our Squad is the positivity and “can do” attitude of swimmers. And this positivity is shared within the lane and across the lanes.

Swimmers support each other though sessions, particularly tough sets. If a swimmer doesn’t quite understand what I’ve explained, their fellow swimmers step in and talk them through it. You can see swimmers checking in with others and comparing times during sets, often encouraging others to keep it going or push it a bit more. “Only two more to go” or “it’s only 4 more lengths. We can all do four more lengths.”

Fist bumps and cheers at the end of tough sets or sessions are commonplace. Even a simple “I love this set” when it’s getting challenging, is positive for others to hear. Brilliant to see.

Nobody epitomises this positivity more than Kathryn.

Keep up the positive attitudes, swimmers – it’s so good to see!!
