Swim Squad Awards: The Fun Award

Swim Squad award number 4 is the “Fun Award”. This goes to those swimmers who always have a smile on their faces and make sure everybody else does too!

The Squad is what it is because of the swimmers involved creating that club feel, the great community and environment that makes swimmers keep coming back for more!

There are lots of swimmers who work hard with a smile on their faces.

😀 Ian consistently brings the fun! He keeps swimmers entertained, always keeping things light-hearted and is a role model for others – all the while leading the squad and setting the work-hard example for others.

😀 James B exudes positivity and willingness to get stuck in. Taking things seriously with a side order of funnies. The first to offer the fist bumps to the rest of the lane after a tough session.

😀 The swimmer who just edges others out is somebody who makes a game out of anything. Can’t count the reps on a main set? Create a game of counting by lining up unused hand paddles. Working on tumble turns but some of the lane can’t quite get the tumble? Create a synchronised swimming game that leaves the whole squad in stitches! This swimmer is super positive and arguably the creator of “the fun lane”. One of first swimmers I met for a 1-1 when Triathlon Swim Squad started in 2019 and since then has been a big supporter of the squad. This swimmer is probably the major reason I’ve worked with so many athletes from St Helens Tri!

Step forward, Chris!

It’s important to remember that whilst we take our sport and our training seriously, keep in mind that we do it for fun too. Life can be a bit grey sometimes, so having fun with your swim buddies for an hour or two each week is actually really important.

Keep working hard – and don’t stop the fun!
