Swim Squad Awards: The “Punch The Air In Delight” Moment

The “Punch The Air In Delight” moment is all about outstanding race performances.

I’ve had quite a few “punch the air” moments when I’ve seen swim times flash up on athlete race trackers (usually when walking the dog as it happens!).

Four of these standout to me.

👊 After breaking his collarbone early in 2022, Chris’s dedication sees him swimming the 3.8k Ironman Portugal swim in 1 hour 30 rather than the 1.45 he was originally aiming for!

👊 After almost pulling out of the race because of nerves about the swim, Ange surprising herself by being miles under the swim cut off in her big race at Slateman this year, going on to have a super all round race.

👊 Jo made a return to competitive pool swimming in February this year, swimming in the North West Masters with Ian and myself. Her 400m freestyle was a thing of beauty, with expert pacing 1.13 / 1.20 / 1.20 / 1.20 finishing the race with a 5.13 400m and taking home a medal. A real pleasure to watch.
(An honourable mention for Ian at the same event – rolling back the years and swimming really, really fast!).

👊 Peter had a swim to tell the grandkids about at Ironman Wales this year, finishing the rough, rough 3.8k swim in a way beyond expectations, mind-boggling 1.09.

Loads of other great swim performances this year – within triathlons, open water swim races, masters swimming events. Swimmers transferring their efforts in the pool and open water sessions into outstanding race day performances!

It’s been a pleasure to be part of!
