Swimming Tips: Be Present
Today’s swim tip is about being present during your swim. Keeping your focus.
Don’t go to the pool, switch off and just swim up and down. Don’t stick headphones in either! Be present, be aware of what you’re doing and what you’re feeling.
What Do I Mean?
Examples of not being fully present often include:
- Always forgetting how many lengths or reps you’ve done.
- Just swimming up and down.
- Often thinking about other things during your swim.
- Using the pullbuoy and then just forgetting about your core and your legs.
- Rushing through your drills so you can get into the main set.
- Being preoccupied with your Garmin.
- Not knowing your pace during the swim session.
Focus!
Try and have a focus during the session. Know the purpose of your session and what you hope to get out of it.
Also, try and think about one or two things about your technique at a time – and not everything. You will be much more likely to succeed.
Here are a few things you may want to think about.
Be aware. Be alert. Be present.
