The Power of Group Swimming!

How much motivation and willpower would it take for you to go for a swim on your own at 9pm?

One of our newer members of the swim squad was telling me how delighted he is to be swimming in a group again. He couldn’t wait for 9pm to roll around so he could join us in the pool.

“There is no way I would be leaving the house and swimming at this time if I was swimming on my own. It’s brilliant to be part of a group again.”

Triathlon can be a lonely sport, with lots of training on your own. As well as work on improving technique, increasing endurance and developing speed, the squad is a great way to meet up with fellow triathletes and be part of something.

Friendships have developed already. One athlete has entered her first Ironman 70.3 because she was inspired and encouraged by another swimmer in her lane. Brilliant unintended consequences of the swim squad!

And, besides, what else are you going to do at 9pm on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening?!
