If you thought a training plan, customised to the athlete, to help them reach their goals wasn’t really coaching, was ‘just a training plan’, something they could do for themselves (or even follow one from a book or magazine) have a look at this message from one of our ‘Training Plan Athletes’.
To me, confirmed by the message below, the Training Plan …
- Provides accountability
- Fires up the motivation
- Gives an athlete structure specific to them and their own life
- Sparks enthusiasm and eagerness
This athlete took the time out to message me, giving some really positive feedback. The message comes from an athlete who asked me to develop a plan for him to help him race his first Ironman 70.3 next year.

The Message
“Following on from our catch up on Monday and your post about “being brave and having a plan” this morning … here’s an example of how my training plan has already positively impacted my day … and its only 8.30am!”
Oh, this sounds good.
“As you know I’m having to double up on sessions on a Thursday during September as Wednesday is a no go due to work commitments. After a late night Monday after Swim Squad I was up at 5am and on the early train to London Tuesday and there for 2 days getting back fairly late last night. The 5am alarm this morning for my 6am swim was a challenge….I know for sure if I wasn’t following a structured training plan I would have not gone and would have gone back to sleep. This wasn’t an option however as the plan is driving that extra accountability and discipline”.
Accountability and improved discipline driving great consistency.
“Swim session boxed off and actually swam fairly well – better than I thought I would. However the biggest impact is post-swim. I now feel really energised and motivated for a busy work day and am really looking forward to my run session after work.
What is this magic that is happening!!”
A magic spell has been cast over this athlete, it appears. The personalised Training Plan – and the associated benefits that brings – is also having a positive impact on his life. Magic indeed!
“Even though my training volume has increased on the plan so has my discipline, motivation and energy. It’s also showing me that even when I think I’m tired or fatigued I can actually still go out and execute a good session which is giving me confidence for what lies ahead.
Long may this continue!”
Thoughts …
So much to like about this message.
There is nothing better than an athlete who has discipline to get the sessions done, enthusiasm to bring to training, energy to execute the sessions and then still be productive in the day ahead.
Full credit to this athlete for his positive mindset and taking on the training with such enthusiasm. Never underestimate the power of personalised coaching or of a training plan that is designed specifically for the athlete.
In this athletes own words …
“What is this magic that is happening?! Long may it continue!”
