Two athletes standing on the start line …
1️⃣ The first athlete has lots of swim training under her belt and has good swim fitness. She has been in the open water a couple of times to get used to the wetsuit and acclimatise. She is a bit nervous about the swim, hoping her pool swimming will see her safely to the finish.
2️⃣ The second athlete also has good swim fitness, logging lots of hours in the pool over winter and spring. This athlete has also had several structured open water training sessions, developing strong open water skills. This athlete has a well-developed and well-practiced race strategy, knowing where to position herself, how quickly she is going to swim each section of the race, what to do if she finds herself in sticky situations in the water and how she is going to manage the swim to get back to shore as quickly as possible.
When you’re standing on the start line, which athlete are you going to be?
Our open water group sessions are designed to equip you with great open water confidence, all the open water skills you will need on race day, a well developed sense of pacing in the open water and strategies to take during the melee of the swim.
If you like the sound of this, we have some group sessions – including some aimed at new triathletes – starting on 29th April at the Liverpool Watersports Centre.
