We’re coming to the end of the year. I thought it would be good to look back and reflect on some of the athletes I’ve worked with in the pool and in the open water – and perhaps identify a few success stories along the way.
To put this all into context, I’ve worked with 120+ swimmers this year, supporting them with their swim development.
These range from 1-1 sessions, swim video analysis and group sessions. Most of these are triathletes – usually Ironman or Ironman 70.3 athletes – but I have also worked with open water swimmers, channel swimmers, competitive short course swimmers and former competitive swimmers.
My personal top 10 success stories:
Paul
Came to me a few months before race day, worried about making Ironman Barcelona swim cut off. Paul worked really hard and swam a 1.21 for a 3.8k sea swim, before going on to complete his first Ironman.
Shaun
Worried about his swim ability, and struggling to swim 400m in May, Shaun swims a 1.18 at Ironman Wales, before finishing his first Ironman.
Graham
A 10 minute 400m swimmer a few months ago, is now a sub-8 400m swimmer!
Susan
After more than 10 years in triathlon, Susan has had her fastest pool swims & race day swims this year.
Alan
A 10 minute 400m swimmer in Summer, and unable to swim in open water without panicking, is now a sub-7 minute 400m swimmer, completed an open water Olympic Distance triathlon and is looking forward to Ironman Wales next year.
Jamie
Won every swim event in the recent NHS Games.
David
David is now swimming faster than ever, recently swimming 12 seconds for 25m freestyle.
Claire
Had a confident and brilliant swim in Ironman Italy this year after several 1-1 sessions.
Ben
Ben has gone from an 8.30 to a 6.55 400m swimmer, and is improving by the week!
Gary
Significantly improved his confidence swimming in open water, completing Ironman Staffordshire in a new best time.
Some amazing swimming from these and other swimmers this year – with some real successes along the way!
