“Thank you I really enjoyed that this morning. I can’t wait to swim again to tweek it all more. Feeling really positive about swimming for the first time in 12 months. Thanks Bryan. 😁”
Today was a swim video analysis session with a very competitive age group triathlete.
A fast swimmer who Is struggling to reach the speeds that she used to hit, the brief was to help her regain that speed, whilst keeping in mind some recent injuries she’s been suffering with.
From initial observations, you could tell that she was a good swimmer. Good body position, nice arm turnover, low head position, controlled breathing, quick.
First thing we looked at was lengthening the stroke a little, introducing more reach into the stroke. This also had the effect of introducing a little more rotation, and giving the stroke more rhythm. It also helped reduce the effort and the stroke became more efficient.
We also looked at keeping her hand in line with her forearm and not bending at the wrist. When we managed this, there was a sudden increase in power and propulsion. Lots of power in the stroke, just waiting to be unleashed!
Just by making these small changes, she became a much smoother and faster swimmer. The stroke was long, it had rhythm, it had power, it had speed.
I think she’ll surprise herself the next time she does a 100m or 400m effort.
An hour well spent!
