Introduction To Open Water Swimming
“For the last few weeks it’s all I’ve been thinking about.”
Are you this excited about the start of our open water swim season?
What is it about open water swimming that makes us look forward to it so much?
According to this swimmer …
“Putting wetsuits on in the changing rooms and the camaraderie with others whilst you’re doing that. It’s all the nerves and the apprehension. Then the shock of the water, the breakthroughs during the swim, the laughs, the stories afterwards.”
If you’re a fairly competent swimmer and you have not done much open water swimming before, you might want to think about our ‘Introduction To Open Water Swimming’ sessions, which take place at the Liverpool Watersports Centre.

What Can You Expect?
What you can expect from our ‘Introduction to open water swimming sessions’
- Small group
- Slower pace & your own pace swimming
- We’ll help develop confidence and calm
- You will learn new open water swim skills
- You will develop your swim technique
These sessions aren’t designed to be standalone sessions. To get the best from them, I would suggest attending several sessions. Each session will build on the work that’s gone before and you will become a better open water swimmer.
Remember …
▪️ skills need practice
▪️ confidence needs reinforcing
▪️ technique requires repetition

Open Water Skills Guide
To help you think about open water swimming, and some of the things we’ll cover, here is our Open Water Skills Guide.
“That 500m lap changed my swimming”
The same swimmer who is excited to start the open water sessions was one of the swimmers who attended these Intro sessions regularly last year, building confidence and swim ability through the season. The first time he swam the 500m loop of the Watersports Centre was a special moment for him and one he has not forgotten.
Our 2024 open water swim sessions start on 20th April.
