Power & Propulsion

Over the past few weeks, the various swim squads have been working on some power and propulsion to increase swim speed.

How have we done this?

We have worked on:

✅ Getting a good ‘catch’
✅ What the pull should look like
✅ Length of the pull
✅ Holding water
✅ Strong wrists and hand pressure
✅ Acceleration through the pull
✅ Generating big power over short distances
✅ Increasing speed by increasing force, rather than speeding up arm turnover.

In all of the squads, the athletes have swam sets of fast 100’s and 50’s – keeping their stroke long and powerful. The swimmers look great, really moving themselves through the water.

Over the coming weeks and months we’re going to increase the distances and swim ‘long and strong’. I’m predicting some new PB’s over longer distances.
